Before launching her digital agency Born in June Creative, Cardenas spent almost a decade working as an advocate for women and girls, with a specific emphasis on achieving gender equality through education and empowerment and combating gender discrimination. Through her various roles in the California State Legislature, Planned Parenthood, and grassroots community-based organizations, she elevated the voices of countless individuals and families. Her work included creating campaigns that supported the expansion of healthcare access, strengthened safety net programs, and uplifted progressive causes and candidates across the country at the local, state, and federal levels. She also developed leadership and voter mobilization training for first-time voters and advised and counselled organizers that are working on some of today’s most critical issues. She began her career as a community organizer in East Los Angeles, where she first learned that all politics are local.

Simultaneously, Betsy began writing about her experiences in her career in politics, social change and culture in national publications like Marie Claire, Vox, The Independent and more.

Having entered politics and entrepreneurship with little to no mentorship or guidance Betsy loves to share her experience on personal development, career. She is also an advocate of increasing awareness about the importance of mental health in first-generation Americans and immigrant communities.

She is a founding member of LOUD Community, and served on the Board of Bindercon a writing conference and community for women and gender variant writers.

She lives with her husband and their family in Los Angeles.
